Hunter Barclay’s vehicle was seen swerving about on the road close to midnight on June 28.

The officer contacted the police control room and Barclay’s car was pulled over close to the Eight Acres Hotel on the edge of Elgin.

After the 33-year-old failed a roadside breath test, he was taken to Elgin Police Station where an official test was administered at 12.40pm. This gave a reading of 93, more than four times the legal limit of 22.

Defence solicitor Grant Daglish told Elgin Sheriff Court that his client had lost his job as a machine operator and was now on universal credit.

The lawyer added that Barclay was in the early stages of working with Arrows, the alcohol addiction programme.

Barclay, of East Road, Egin, pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving and was banned from the roads for 16 months. He was also fined £667.
