AN ELGIN couple are the proud parents of special twins after they made a very early appearance on New Year's Day.

Ackie and Alara Little were born nine weeks' premature, at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, where they are now thriving in the special care unit after a spell in intensive care.

Ackie weighed just 2lb 8oz and Alara 2lb 14oz after they were born by emergency caesarean section just before 7pm on January 1.

Alara Little weighed 2lb 14oz when she and her twin brother arrived on January 1.

Mum Lana Macdonald, a senior staff nurse at Dr Gray's Hospital, and dad Daniel Little, a scaffolder, are looking forward to bringing their babies home to Elgin's Kirkton Place within the next fortnight.

Excitement is building for the twins' big sister, four-year-old Neve, who has only been able to meet Ackie and Alara through FaceTime.

Lana said: "We thought what a perfect date to be born – 1.1.21 – and it's the most perfect New Year present."
