MORAY College UHI has teamed up with one of Elgin's most established firms to launch a new course for business leaders.

The first entrants signed up to train for the new qualification – offered by the college in conjunction with family-owned Gordon & MacPhail – started this morning.

The course – responsible leadership and development for contemporary business – is a fully accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme for business leaders.

Gordon & MacPhail approached the college to design a course for their managers from across the business, using funding from the Flexible Workforce Development Fund.

The programme is designed to train business leaders in responsible leadership and management, business finance, innovation, entrepreneurship and project management. The aim is to help firms prepare for a sustainable future in an era focused on social and environmental responsibility.

Gordon & MacPhail managing director Ewen Mackintosh said: "To deliver business success, it is important that we continue our long-standing approach of investing in the development of our colleagues. This course will equip our managers with the skills to lead the delivery of our ambitious plans for growth in an ever-evolving marketplace."

Allane Hay, programme leader, said: "UHI continues to focus on teaching responsible leadership through the MSc in leadership and management and Masters in business administration. The development of this course with Gordon & MacPhail will further extend the university's portfolio in this area.

"I am thrilled to be working on this course in direct partnership with a business that will provide business leaders in the workplace with the opportunity to use their own workplace environment to learn and develop their approach to responsible leadership and innovation."

The programme is suitable for any business organisation and will be delivered through classroom-based learning one day per month and learning within the workplace.

The first year is already full but further courses will be available from next year. Contact jacqui.taylor.moray@uhi.ac.uk for more information.
