Elgin industrial estate businesses thank firefighters for working through the night to battle huge blaze at J Gordon Williamson
Businesses in the vicinity of a huge fire which broke out on an industrial estate in Elgin have thanked emergency services which battled the blaze overnight.
Firefighting crews from across Moray, Aberdeenshire and the Highlands rushed to J Gordon Williamson scrap merchants and recycling centre at Tyock Industrial Estate at around 10.35pm last night.
Businesses close to the fire have been advised to keep windows closed due to smoke.
Moycroft Road north of Chanonry Road remains closed along with a section of Chanonry Road North.
Moray Council has confirmed that Chanonry Recycling Centre in Elgin, Waterford Recycling Centre in Forres, Gollachy Recycling Centre in Buckie and Dallachy Recycling Centre are closed as a result of the fire.
However, the centres are expected to reopen tomorrow.
Some business have remained closed as a result this morning but others have been allowed to reopen.
An announcement from Pinz Bowling, located just a few hundred yards away from the fire, reads: “We have been give the all clear and are OPEN as normal today.
“The road is now accessible up to the turning into Pinz.
“We thank all the emergency services who worked tirelessly through the night to get the blaze under control.
“It goes without saying that our thoughts go out to all those affected by last nights fire.”
Alexander Wallace Toyota Elgin, located across from Pinz Bowling, has reopened after it was unable to do so earlier this morning.
A statement on the firm’s social media reads: “We are open.
“There is still partial road closures on the estate but access to Chanonry Road south is now permitted.
“Please drive carefully as there is still a lot of commotion and emergency vehicles moving around.
“Our thoughts are with the business and people affected by this fire.”
J Gordon Williamson remains closed.

The Blind Spot has closed its showroom and offices.
WiFi Scotland LLP has no access to its offices at the moment but adds that its vans are well-stocked and that most of the firm’s work can continue as normal.
Speyfruit has been given the all clear to open but says that some deliveries may be delayed.
