A NEW display on Elgin's famous Two Red Shoes ballroom is going on show at Elgin Museum, which opens for the season on March 28.

The showcase will look at the Elgin venue and its owner Albert Bonici, who brought big names in the music business to Elgin from the mid 1950s to the early 70s.

As well as the Beatles, the roll-call also included The Who, Pink Floyd, The Yardbirds, The Animals and Cream.

Windy Miller, one of the bands which featured in the ballroom, will play a few numbers from noon to celebrate the opening – which runs from 11am to 4pm.

Also on show at the museum this season will be fossils of Elginerpeton pancheni – one of the world's first animals to make the transition from water to land, over 300 million years ago.

Originally found in the north-east, the fossils have been in other museums around Britain.

Professor Per Ahlberg, of The University of Uppsala in Sweden, will give a special evening lecture on the fossils on April 24, in the Museum's Hall.

That's followed on April 25-26 with a Fossil Finders' Weekend for all interested fossil hunters.

The first art exhibition of the year will be work by Julie Reynolds. To the Lonely Sea and the Skies will be showing from March 28 to May 9 during museum opening hours.

You can visit the museum's website for opening hours and further information.
