Joshua Latham, who raped a woman in her home while her daughter was in the house has been jailed for five years and three months.

The sentence was imposed by Lord Matthews at the High Court in Edinburgh.

Latham from Elgin was 19 when he carried out the attack on May 18 this year.

Now 20, Latham has been placed on the sex offenders register for life for raping the 42-year-old mother.

He will also be supervised for three years after his release.

Latham had confessed to his then girlfriend he had been a "bad boy".

Detective Inspector Cammy Preston, senior investigating officer, commended Latham’s victim for coming forward and allowing Grampian Police to bring him to justice.
