A man spotted late at night hanging around the recycling centre in Elgin has been ordered to do unpaid work.

Prezemyslaw Fratczak was captured on CCTV in 2020 during the early hours of both July 22 and August 14.

The 38-year-old appeared at Elgin Sheriff Court yesterday.

He admitted two charges of being at the Chanonry site without a lawful excuse, as well as behaving in a manner by which it could be reasonably inferred he intended to commit theft.

Defence solicitor Ben Thom said his client had been experiencing financial as well as housing problems at the time of the offence.

Mr Thom said: "He was looking for scrap items that others had discarded."

The lawyer added that Fratczak was in a far more stable situation now.

The defendant was ordered to carry out 50 hours of unpaid work for the community.
