A BUDGET hotel chain is today marking the opening of its first branch in Moray – creating 20 jobs.

Travelodge is celebrating its 35th birthday by opening the hotel at Elgin Gateway Business Park, situated off the A96 on the eastern edge of the town.

Elgin Travelodge features 61 rooms, an on-site restaurant called the Bar-Café, and car parking.

Ann Howie, hotel manager, said: "We are getting geared up for a busy festive season with local residents' family and friends staying with us while they visit their loved ones.

"This is great news for the local economy as research shows our customers will spend, on average, double their room rate with local businesses, which equates to an annual multi-million spend.

"I am also super-excited to develop my team, which includes lots of working parents, and give them the same opportunities that I was given of successfully climbing the career ladder and become hotel managers of the future."

The new hotel features SuperRooms, which dials up the comfort factor for business and leisure customers who want a more "home from home" feel.

These rooms are only available in four Travelodge hotels across Scotland – two in Edinburgh, one in Glasgow and now Elgin.

The multi-million investment is the company’s 592nd hotel and its 47th in Scotland.
