Ember’s new Inverness-Aberdeen electric bus service launches tomorrow with cheaper tickets to Elgin and Nairn with stops also at Aberdeen Airport, Blackburn, Kintore, Inverurie, Keith, Elgin, and Nairn
A brand new all-electric bus service from Inverness to Aberdeen is set to go live tomorrow, boasting single adult tickets from £13.70 but there are even greater savings on shorter journeys.
It is the latest addition to public transport in the north after the launch of Highland Council’s bus service and its expansion with the takeover of D&E Coaches.
Ember, an Edinburgh-based fully-electric bus operator, has already got an electric charging hub in Inverness that will be central to the operation of a new service.
For many the main attraction will be the ticket prices to destinations like Elgin and Nairn and back.
The ticket price on Citylink for Inverness-Aberdeen is just marginally cheaper than Ember but for some routes Ember is less than half the price.
The real savings are on Inverness to Elgin at £5.90 on Ember compared to £13.30 to £19.80 offered by Citylink and Stagecoach, a trip from Inverness to Nairn is £3.30.
The company said: “We are launching a new route from Aberdeen to Inverness with stops at Aberdeen Airport, Blackburn, Kintore, Inverurie, Keith, Elgin and Nairn.
“The route will begin on 5 June 2025 with six return services per day. We will be adding more stops and more services over the summer.”
“It is just £13.70 for an adult single from Aberdeen to Inverness if you book online (whether you book weeks before or a minute ahead).”
It added: “Many more stops will be added to a full timetabled route later on in the summer. We can't wait to extend Ember's services to so many new communities in the beautiful Highlands.”
Highland Council granted planning permission for the site on Harbour Road back in 2023 which was described as vital due to its central location.
A spokesman at the time said: “Being central minimises ‘dead-leg’ mileage and ultimately will allow Ember to run more services.”
Ember already runs services on routes including connecting Fort William with Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as others between Aberdeen and Dundee.
