Scottish Fire and Rescue crews and Police Scotland on scene of another Lossiemouth quarry fire





Emergency services are on the scene of a large quarry fire in Lossiemouth.

Large plumes of smoke were spotted coming from the area late this afternoon and the fire brigade reported that seven appliances are at the location.

The blaze comes just days after another quarry fire in the town - which is being treated as “wiful” - required six fire appliances and specialist units to bring the blaze under control.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 3.43pm on Tuesday, August 26, to reports of a large fire within a quarry in Lossiemouth.

"Operations Control mobilised seven appliances to the town's Sunbank Quarry, where firefighters remain working to extinguish the fire.

"There are no reported casualties.

"People living locally are asked to avoid the area and to keep windows and doors closed for the time being."

Police Scotland said that road closures had been put in place on the A941, Inchbroom Road and Muirton Road.
