ENGINEERS are working to repair a gas leak on the A96 in Keith.

Gas distribution company SGN has moved to reassure locals that the Fife Keith area is safe as it deals with the incident.

The company is awaiting the arrival of specialist equipment to stem the leak.

Temporary traffic lights will be in operation tomorrow, Wednesday, January 29, but it is as yet unknown how long the repairs will take.

Bradley Barlow, SGN spokesperson, said: "We’re working to repair our gas network on the A96 in Keith, between the cemetery and train station.

"We’ll shortly be removing our temporary traffic lights while we wait for specialised equipment to arrive on site – this is expected to be tomorrow morning, Wednesday, January 29.

"We would like to assure local residents we have carried out our investigations and the area has been assessed as being safe.

"From Wednesday, January 29, we will need to re-install our temporary traffic lights to ensure everyone’s safety around our work area. To keep the traffic flowing, we’ll be manually operating these lights from 7am to 7pm.

"Our engineers will work to fix our network as quickly and safely as possible. However, it’s still too early at this stage to say how long it will take to complete our work."
