Exam results - Elgin Academy pupils delighted at straight A grades
Excited pupils have told of their big future plans after receiving straight ‘A’ exam results.
Elgin Academy has said it is “delighted” and praised the “hard work” of top performing students.
Two of the top performers were 17-year-old pupils Zara Munro (S5) and Bartek Jakiel (S6), last year’s head pupil and this year’s head pupil.
Bartek, who was also dux, is getting ready to start life studying chemistry Strathclyde University and hopes to become a teacher.
He received As in Advanced Higher Maths, Physics and Chemistry and an A in Higher Human Biology.
“I have got my eyes on being a chemistry teacher,” he said. “Since P6 I have wanted to be a teacher.
“I was questioning whether I would get As, so it was nice to see all As.”
Laura received her As in Higher Maths, English, Modern Studies, Business Management and Biology.
She is studying Spanish this year - and hopes that could take her abroad in the future.
She said: “I really want to travel, so it would be good to have another language that is widely spoken.
“I want to go into business marketing, but haven’t ruled out law yet. But I do really want to travel.
“I would love to work in Spain and see the world as Spanish is spoken everywhere.
“It’s great that we have that option. A lot of my friends at other schools can’t do Spanish as it isn’t offered.”
Neil Johnson has just started as Elgin Academy’s head teacher after taking over from Kyle Scott.
He said: “We are delighted with the results of our highest attaining students this year.
“It really is a testament to the hard work these young people have put in – and the work of our teaching staff, support staff and families in supporting them.”
Elgin Academy had 22 pupils who gained six or more National 5s at A grade. Fourteen of those gained at least seven National 5s at A, with four of these gaining eight National 5s at A grade and two of those gained nine Nat 5s at A grade.
In S5, nine gained five Highers at A with one of these gaining six Highers at A grade.
A total of five S6 students gained three Advanced Highers at A grade - including Bartek, who also added a Higher to his collection.
