Moray distillery art exhibition to shed light on The Cabrach’s enduring spirit
A three-day art exhibition is set to pay tribute to the historic Moray community of The Cabrach.
The Cabrach Distillery at Inverharroch Farm will be displaying a series of works, both by national artists and local artisans, that capture the area’s essence.
Every visitor will also have the opportunity to contribute their own stitch to The Cabrach Tapestry, an ongoing project to tell the region’s story, which includes its past as a hotspot for illicit distilling and smuggling.
Textile artist Susie Finlayson, well known in certain circles for her work on the Great Tapestry of Scotland, said: “The manner in which The Cabrach has rallied behind this project is incredible.
“Seeing the community’s passion and enthusiasm has been powerful.”
Sam Dowdall, from The Cabrach Trust, said: “In rural communities, where opportunities for engagement can be limited, these collaborative initiatives are more than artistic expressions.
“When people come together to create, they not only honour their shared past but also shape a vibrant, collective future.”
Across the courtyard from the exhibition area, the distillery will also be showcasing the artistry of whisky-making.
The Cabrach Trust opened the distillery last year following a gap of whisky-making in the area of 170 years.
A heritage centre and community bistro are also being planned as part of the trust’s recently successful efforts to reverse a century of depopulation and decline.
The ‘Inspired By’ exhibition is free to attend and will run at The Cabrach Distillery, Inverharroch Farm (Lower Cabrach, AB54 4EH) from 11am-4pm, every day between Friday, June 13 and Sunday, June 15.
