Organisers were delighted with the turnout for the event, which was celebrating its 75th running and returning for the first time after the coronavirus pandemic.

The healthy crowd enjoyed a variety of events at Fife Park between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday, June 18.

Chairwoman Sarah McWilliam said: "It was really good.

"It was great to have such a big turnout on the day, because we weren't sure how it was going to be received after the pandemic.

"We were a bit nervous because ticket sales weren't great when we were going door-to-door, but thankfully a lot of people picked up tickets at Clark's Chemists and turned up on the day.

"The bouncy castle had to be cancelled due to high winds, which we thought might put a dampener on things, but it didn't affect the atmosphere at all."

The day was kicked off by Strathisla Pipe Band, who piped from Fife Keith Square into the park – receiving a good reception from those in attendance.

There was plenty of entertainment for children on the day with the Tam O'Shanter Train, Magic Faces face painting and balloon-making and the regular kids races.

A spread of food was put on by organisers, with sausage rolls, sandwiches, ice cream, crisps and juice on offer.

White's Bites Burger Van attended late on to provide dinner, while a special anniversary birthday cake was enjoyed by attendees.

Plans are set to begin soon for the 2023 running of the Fife Keith Picnic. The committee are hoping they can expand before the next event, to make its organising easier.

"We are always looking for helpers," Sarah added. "The picnic is all hands on deck and, because we only have 10 in the committee, sometimes we have our own kids, some as young as six, helping out.

"They helped this year with bagging pieces, for example. All generations get involved.

"We are also grateful for local support and would be delighted to welcome new committee members."

Fundraising events ahead of next year's picnic will be advertised on Fife Keith Picnic's Facebook group, which can be found at www.facebook.com/groups/907899955903918.
