Speymouth Parish Church set for final afternoon of fond memories

A Moray church is set to hold a final open day before it shuts its doors for the last time.

Speymouth Parish Church in Mosstodloch is set to close at the end of this month as part of the Presbytery Mission Plan for Lower Speyside and in line with major changes across the Church of Scotland nationally.

Throughout the summer the church has followed its usual programme of Joint Summer Worship Services, with services taking place in Speymouth during the month of July and in Bellie Church, Fochabers in August.

however it was decided that as this programme of Joint Summer Worship comes towards an end, the last Sunday in August will mark the final service in Speymouth Church and will be a Service of Thanksgiving led by our Interim Moderator, Rev Dr Jaco Boonzaaier.

Prior to that, on Saturday, August 24 the church will hold an open afternoon which will see the sanctuary open from 2pm to 4pm for a time of reflection.

An open invitation is being extended to all those who attended the Red Kirk to share their wedding photos, or pictures from other life events in and around the church to be part of a display of photographs and other memorabilia.

Photos should be passed to Jenny Reid, 36 Pinewood Road, Mosstodloch by August 20. Pop along to see the displays, listen to some organ music and enjoy time in the sanctuary, followed by Strawberry Teas in the Hall.

The Service of Thanksgiving will take place on Sunday, August 25 at 10.00am and Sacrament of Communion will also be celebrated. It is hoped to be a memorable and special service. There will be time for fellowship in the Hall over teas and coffees afterwards.
