Buckie Christmas lights team ‘raring to go’ as finishing touches being put to festive displays
The final touches are being put to a local Christmas lights display ahead of them being put in place soon.
In around a month’s time the centre of Buckie will see dedicated volunteers from the Buckie Christmas Lights Committee busy in the centre of town, as well as East/West Church Streets and High Street erecting displays which will bring a festive sparkle to the town.
They will be switched on as part of the grand finale of the Buckie Christmas Kracker on Saturday, November 16.
One of those looking forward to seeing the lights up and twinkling is Adam Murray, who chairs both the Buckie Christmas Lights and Christmas Kracker Committees.
He said: “Everything’s looking good and ready to go.
“We’ll be hoping to start getting the displays in place in the second or third week of October, depending on the weather.
“This year’s display is pretty much the same as last year’s, we had a lot of new lights for 2023. Thankfully we’ve got all the damage that was caused to the displays by Storm Arwen in 2021 sorted.
“We’re still working on the final details but the lights switch on festivities will start around 4.30pm with the switch-on itself around 5pm, finishing off with fireworks. This year we’ll have live music in the build-up which will carry on into the early evening. We also have a bar returning this year in the square.
“As I said, we still have some finishing touches to put to it but we’re all raring to go.”
Mr Murray went on to say that the Christmas lights volunteers were always delighted to hear from anyone interested in signing up fir the team. For more information, and to sign up, message via the Buckie Christmas Kracker Facebook page.
The Kracker itself is poised to be another bumper event again this year, with last year’s extravaganza drawing around 3000 people from the local area and further afield to the centre of Buckie for a day of family fun.
Making a welcome return to the Kracker this year will be the festival mascots, and there will be an opportunity for youngsters to enjoy breakfast with them before the main event begins. More details for this are set to follow.
Cluny Square will be packed with attractions and events, including a parade, a marquee featuring community groups, crafters and small businesses, as well as a funfair, live music and performances on stage, the fun run and dog show.
No Christmas event would be complete, however, without Santa and his grotto.
The local Boys’ Brigade are also set to be holding their ball bounce fundraiser during the course of the day.
