First phase of upgrades to Dufftown's Tininver Park completed

THE first phase of upgrades to Tininver Park in Dufftown has been completed, with £50,000 invested in brand new play equipment.
In 2015, a community engagement project and a consultation process showed there was widespread desire in the town to see the park upgraded.
Six years later, the project is well under way with new fencing around the park, a new artificial surface and plenty of upgraded equipment.
A see-saw, an obstacle course, a slide and a balance beam are just a few of the items that have been installed.
Andy Meynell, a trustee at Dufftown and District Community Association, who have taken a lead on the project, said: “The level of community engagement with the Tininver Park upgrade has been fantastic.
"It has given a clear mandate for the development of the park and has made securing additional funding easier.
"The feedback from both kids and adults has been fantastic. Phase one is now complete and work will progress on phase two with further upgrades hopefully in 2022."
There are big future plans – with a fenced off area for football, basketball, netball or hockey to be built, along with a mountain bike area and an area for adult fitness.
Work is also going into making the park more accessible, with plans to increase parking, create a disabled parking space and seal a perimeter path with wheelchair access to the play equipment.
The project, which is part funded by the Foundation Scotland from the EDF Renewables Dorenell Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund, has enjoyed strong support.
Moray Council has provided help through its Community Support Team, Parks and Recreation and Procurement departments, while Mortlach Mud Mayhem has been raising funds for the project.
A spokesperson for Mortlach Mud Mayhem said: “It is fantastic to see the scores of children and families from near and far enjoying the new play area and facilities within Tininver Park.
"The fundamental aim of Mortlach Mud Mayhem was to raise money in order to provide improved facilities in the local area for children to play, learn and develop – so it is very fitting that this journey has started on the doorstep to where the events took place.
"I want to thank and congratulate the efforts of the Dufftown and District Community Association and the relevant stakeholders for their drive and delivery to make these upgrades a reality.”
A Moray Council spokesperson added: “Our Open Space Technical Officer, Sarah Campbell, was pleased to work closely with Dufftown and District Community Association to provide technical advice and guidance on play area equipment.
"She, alongside our Community Support Team, supported them with procurement to deliver this fantastic project that will greatly benefit the local community.”
