Moray Council lowers flags to half mast on day of Pope Francis’ funeral
Moray Council will lower flags above its headquarters to half-mast today to make the funeral of Pope Francis.
His Holiness passed away on Easter Monday, with his funeral due to take place today (Saturday, April 26).
Moray Council’s Civic Leader, Councillor John Cowe (Independent, Heldon and Laich), said the Pope “touched the lives of many” in the area.
He added that the council “stands in solidarity” with its Catholic residents at a “time of sorrow”.
“On behalf of Moray Council, I extend our deepest condolences to the Catholic community on the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis,” he said.
“His unwavering commitment to compassion, humility, and social justice has left an indelible mark on the world and touched the lives of many within our community.
“As we gather to honour his memory on the day of his funeral, we reflect on the profound impact of his leadership and the comfort he brought to countless individuals through his words and actions.
“Pope Francis was a beacon of hope and a champion for the marginalised, inspiring us all to strive for a more inclusive and loving society.
“In this time of sorrow, we stand in solidarity with our Catholic residents, offering our support and prayers.
“May the legacy of Pope Francis continue to guide and uplift us, reminding us of the power of faith, kindness, and unity.”
