A WEEKEND of fun for all the family is on the cards as Fochabers gets ready to hold its annual gala extravaganza.

Events will kick off on Friday, July 26, culminating in the gala day itself on Sunday, July 28.

The Friday plays host to the tombola at the Public Institute and the crowning of the Gala VIPs, who this year are Rebekah Glew and Jasper Haley. Both have just completed their P7 year at Milne's Primary School and were selected by their classmates as this year's Gala Ambassadors.

Doors open at 7pm with eyes down at 7.30pm. The event will also feature the 300 Club draw.

Saturday promises to be a busy day, kicking off at Bellie Church which will host Strawberry Teas from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Later in the afternoon it is the turn of the annual duck race - this year with an Olympics Theme - in celebration of the forthcoming Paris Olympics! The race will start at 5pm from the bridge next to the caravan park.

Saturday evening brings the annual gala quiz night - in the Institute 7.30pm for 8pm start. Teams of six are welcome to participate and test their knowledge.

The biggest day of all, of course, remains the Sunday with festivities getting under way at 1pm and scheduled to run until 4pm.

A warm welcome back for Buckie and District Pipe Band is on the cards, not to mention the much-anticipated parade by the Speyside Tractor and Vintage Engine Club. The opening parade is due to get under way from the Institute at 1pm.

Runners in the Jean Carr Hill Race are due to get under starter’s orders at 1.15pm.

There will be the usual gala barbecue and bottle stall, teas, bowls and putting, hook the ducks, teas, bouncy castle, cricket club activities, fruit kebabs, candy floss and raffles. There will also be music from Colleen Murphy and lots more.

Once again there will be plenty of community stalls at the gala.
