Moray postmistress Margaret Carmichael is bid a happy retirement
A rural post office in Moray has closed its doors following the retirement of its postmistress at the age of 83.
Margaret Carmichael has now retired after being at the helm of Glenlivet Post Office for 29 years.
Straight after leaving school, Margaret started at Bridgend Post Office, where she was stayed for seven years.
She then worked at Ballindoch Post Office for 10 years until taking time to care for her elderly parents.
Later, when the owners of Bridgend Post Office were looking to sell, Margaret successfully applied to take on the branch at her home in Glenlivet, where she had lived since 1961.
Margaret says: “I enjoyed being there to serve my community. It worked well having Glenlivet as part of my home.”
She adds that she’s looking forward to having more time to garden and to enjoy meeting up with her sister.
Louise Duff, the post office area manager, said: “I want to sincerely thank Margaret for running Glenlivet Post Office since May 1995.
“She is very community-minded and I wish her a well-earned retirement.”
The nearest alternative branches to Glenlivet will be Ballindalloch and Tomnavoulin.
