Taking over the baton from Anne Corbet, who retired earlier this year after 17 years in the post, is Brian Smith

He has huge musical experience and is well known locally for his work as musical director of the very successful Kinloss Military Wives’ Choir, and more recently the Forres Chorale. As well as being very supportive of choral singing, Mr Smith is keen to involve and promote young local

musicians

Buckie Choral had been about to perform their 50th Anniversary concert of Handel’s Messiah when Covid struck – it is hoped that this work will be performed in April of next year – but initially the choir will tackle some lighter pieces, working towards a concert in December which will include Christmas music.

Mr Smith said that he is looking forward very much to working with Buckie Choral Union and and building on the tradition established over the last 50 years.

The first rehearsal will be on Thursday, August 25 at 7.30pm in the North Church Hall, Buckie and Covid precautions will be in place. Former, current and new choir members will be very

welcome, including newcomers to choral music. There are no auditions, and there will be help

with learning the music.
