Forres company AES Solar named Best Buy by magazine Ethical Consumer

A FORRES solar panel company has been named Best Buy for solar water heating by magazine Ethical Consumer.
The AES Luminary, manufactured on-site at the AES Solar headquarters on Lea Road, came out on top after scoring high in the rating system.
Ethical Consumer is a trusted name within the ethical business community, with the Best Buy label going to companies who consider ethics and the environment throughout their entire operation.
Ethical Consumer co-editor Tim Hunt said: “We named AES Solar as an ethical Best Buy because it got our best rating for protecting workers’ rights in its supply chain.
"Plus, it did well for policies that reduce its impact on climate change.
"This gives consumers the confidence that they are making the best possible ethical and environmental choice.
"The label is the definitive endorsement for people who want to put principles at the top of their shopping list.”
Both the AES Solar head office and factory are powered by solar PV and thermal power. They manufacture and assemble the majority of their products in Forres and source their materials from the local and European market.
AES Solar "actively resists" the less sustainable trend of sourcing materials from Asia in order to reduce its carbon footprint.
In 2014, AES Solar redesigned their AES Luminary panel range to be more sustainable. Thinner and lighter, the AES Luminary is easier and more cost-effective to transport.
