Four to contest Keith and Cullen by-election

NOMINATIONS have closed for the Keith and Cullen by-election, with four candidates in the running.

Voters will go to the polls on Thursday, November 21 for the Moray Council seat, which became vacant following the resignation of Ron Shepherd.

Mr Shepherd took the decision to stand down from the multi-member ward on health grounds after 20 years as a local councillor.

Announced as standing are: Scottish Liberal Ian Aitchison, of Rothiemay; Independent Rob Barsby, of Portknockie; SNP Jock McKay, of Keith and Laura Powell, Scottish Conservative and Unionist, of Buckie.

Polling will take place from 7am to 10pm on Thursday, November 21 with the count and declaration taking place the following day in Keith.

Eight polling places will be used in the by-election: McBoyle Hall, Portknockie; Cullen Tennis and Bowling Club; Deskford Jubilee Hall; Newmill Public Hall; King Memorial Hall, Grange; Old Ogilvie School Hall, Keith; Longmore Hall, Keith, and Rothiemay Hall.
