Buckie enjoys all the fun of the fair as Peter Fair rolls up in style
Peter Fair made its eagerly awaited annual pilgrimage as young and old flocked to join in the fun.
The organiser’s hope for dry weather was not entirely fulfilled over last Wednesday, Thursday and the traditionally busy Friday when the fair pitched up at the site of the former Rathven Market, although the sun did make plenty of appearances over the three days.
Fair stalwarts such as Freak Out, Midnight Express, Miami and the waltzers all combined to get the adrenalin pumping.
White knuckle rides are not for everyone and there were plenty of gentler options available for fairgoers.
The younger visitors to the fun extravaganza were not, of course, left out with a selection of rides for the kiddies to enjoy.
No fair is complete without the chance for fair-goers to try their hand at winning a prize or two and there were plenty stalls where skill and the need for a keen eye were required to leave with a keepsake from the day.
For those who found their visit to the fair hungry and thirsty work, there was a wide selection of food and other refreshments on offer.
Christian Horne, from Peter Fair organisers Horne’s Pleasure Fairs, said: “It seems like it’s never stopped raining this year wherever we went, so we were hoping it’d be better here, which it was to a certain extent.
“Peter Fair is one of the oldest in Scotland so we’re always delighted to come back.
“We had guys coming from all over although they are getting fewer and fewer and this has a knock-on effect on the fair. For example, we used to have one guy come up from Sheffield but with the cost of everything that’s just feasible for him any more.
“I don’t think that we’ll ever see Peter Fair go back to the size it was a few years ago.
“Over the last year since we were last up in Buckie things have levelled out for us after the process of coming back from the Covid pandemic. The year after the lockdown was a good one but we’re more back to normal now with people going away over the summer for their holidays.
“The cost of living crisis has hit us but we just keep doing what we do week to week.”
He added that an unfortunate side-effect of the cost of living crisis was the need to increase prices on the rides.
