Furlough scheme for Scotland commitment praised
HIGHLANDS and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has welcomed confirmation by the Prime Minister that the UK-wide furlough scheme will be available where it is needed in the event of Scotland requiring to go into full lockdown.
This was confirmed in the House of Commons by Prime Minister Boris Johnson who was responding to a question from Scottish Conservatives’ leader and Moray MP Douglas Ross.
Mr Halcro Johnston said: “No part of our union should be treated differently to another, and Douglas Ross was absolutely right to seek this assurance from our UK colleagues.
“I am pleased the Prime Minister has confirmed that, as it has throughout this pandemic, the UK Government is ready to step up its support of jobs and livelihoods across the Highlands and Islands.
“In tough and uncertain times, our strength has been in working together to face the challenges of Covid-19”.
