The easing of lockdown restrictions and the long summer days will surely be welcome by families all over the UK, as they will be able to celebrate Father’s Day together (and, with all due precautions, even share some hugs!)

Father’s Day in the UK traditionally falls on the third Sunday of June and follows the US dates for the celebration, which was first introduced around 1910 after efforts to establish an equivalent to Mother’s Day.

Although other countries around the world celebrate fathers on other dates (in Italy and Spain, for instance, it follows Catholic tradition and falls on March 19, a day devoted to St Joseph), the US calendar is followed in many parts of the world.

On this date, it’s always warming to celebrate the father figures in our lives with thoughtful and original gifts.

Here are a few ideas if you need some last-minute gift inspiration!

A very useful gift for any age and style could be a beard grooming set. From a kit to keep the shave clean and smooth, or combs and balms to keep the most hairy situations under control, they come in many shapes, forms and prices – here are some ideas from Argos.

Flavours galore

Looking for a thought for a fine palate? Why not gift a good tasting set of their favourite drink of choice or even a tasting experience? The Malt Room in Inverness offers a Drams Delivered subscription for whisky lovers or you can find great virtual wine and spirits tastings from Wood Winters.

Not a drinks fan? Then why not gift a cheese tasting box like those offered by The Cheese Pantry?

Looking for a gift for a musicophile? A good set of quality headphones can always be a good option to enhance the listening experience. However, for those who still hold on to their collection of vinyls and tapes, a multi-purpose music centre (like this one available from Currys PC World) hits the jackpot –allowing you to listen to music from almost all possible sources and allows you to convert analogue formats to digital.

Wooden crafty gifts

The north of Scotland thrives with small artisans and local producers who offer artsy and original creations of all sorts, and that can offer plenty of inspiration for a unique gift. Have a look at the colourful creations by Cromarty Woorturning or some of the lovely ideas from Pens of Distinction or Riverbank Craft Plants.

For the book-a-holic

For the dads who love the pleasures of a good book, why not gift them a book subscription? There are options to suit all tastes and pockets; non-fiction and crime lovers with a palate for craft beer will love the monthly parcels from Books + Beer, and for those who love to travel from the comfort of their homes, the boxes from The Travelling Reader are an absolute treat.

For the House Chef
