Forres House Community Centre is hosting donation sessions with scotblood

A call is going out for blood donation to help support Scottish patients.

Forres folk are being asked to help keep the country’s blood stocks healthy by giving blood at the next donation session in Forres House Community Centre on Tuesday, January 28.

Dr Sylvia Armstrong-Fisher of the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service confirmed donated blood is split into three separate parts (red cells, platelets, and plasma), meaning three lives can potentially be saved or improved with every donation.

She said: ”We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the donors in the area who have regularly come to donate.

“However, we need more, particularly during the school run time where it can prove to be particularly tricky to fill our appointments.

“If you’re aged 17 or over, essentially fit and healthy, and available, we would absolutely love to see you.

“Blood has a shelf life of just 35 days, so we must make sure that supplies are continually replenished, and we fill our upcoming appointments.”

It is not too late to make a potentially lifesaving appointment to donate.

Attendees who have never given blood before or have not in a while will be given a warm welcome by the donation team.

Highland News and Media want to bring 5000 people in to give blood between now and Easter.

“Join our campaign to give blood and save lives,” said Dr Armstrong-Fisher. “Book an appointment to give blood at www.scotblood.co.uk, or call 0345 90 90 999 from Monday to Friday from 9am-5pm.
