Old romantics Geordie and Sheila Morrison got married in 1963. The pair, who live at Glenisla Care Home, opted for matching heart shaped tattoos to symbolise their long lasting relationship.

Geordie said: "There's two hearts, so it means a lot to me. It means we are close and we can stay together."

Geordie and Sheila weren't the only ones to get 'inked up' with other residents joining in on the fun as well.

Although the tattoos were temporary, that didn't stop residents opting for some fairly striking designs that were larger and more realistic than typical transfers.

Emily Clair, activities coordinator at Glenisla, organised the day after seeing the success of a similar idea in America.

Ms Clair said: "I had wanted to do something like this for a while, as I myself have a soft spot for tattoos and have quite a few myself. I thought this would be great fun for both residents and staff, and as it's only temporary and totally harmless.

"I saw a similar idea at a care home in the United States so thought I would just go for it, although I wanted some temporary transfers that would look more realistic.

"The residents really enjoyed choosing their designs and because they look more realistic than normal transfers, the residents felt that they were getting real tattoos. Some of them were really thrilled with their tattoos, and it was sweet to see Geordie and Sheila choosing matching tattoos to celebrate their love for each other."
