Banff goalkeeper who lost both legs after car crash set to enjoy Christmas at home
A teenager who lost both legs in a car crash is set to enjoy Christmas at home with his family after a remarkable recovery.
Adam Golebiewski (18) was one of four people who were travelling in a car which collided with a wall at Union Road in Macduff during the early hours of Sunday, September 8.
The promising goalkeeper from Banff, who played for Deveronside, suffered life-changing injuries in the crash which led to his legs having to be amputated.
Over the past few months since the crash he recovered in hospital in Aberdeen, received prosthetics which has allowed him to walk again and has got home in time to celebrate Christmas with his family.
Lord-Lieutenant of Banffshire Andrew Simpson has praised the resilience Adam has shown in his recovery.
He said in a social media post: “Adam's reflections on his experiences demonstrate his determination and positive approach to life despite the challenges he is facing.
“Adam and his family are also immensely grateful for the practical support and encouragement they have received from the community which has allowed them to adapt their house to meet Adam's needs.
“I was delighted to welcome Adam and his parents to the recent Royal Foundation Together at Christmas carol service at St Machar's Cathedral.”
In October, two football clubs rallied round the teenager by raising more than £12,400 to aid his recovery.
Deveronside and Deveronvale decided that they wanted to raise funds to help Adam and his family.
Their sportsman’s dinner at the Fife Lodge Hotel in Banff, which featured Aberdeen FC legend Eoin Jess and Tartan Army member Ted Christopher, saw £12,445 raised for Adam.
The event was originally going to fundraise for new floodlights at Deveronvale’s Princess Royal Park, however, after Adam was injured in the crash it was decided the proceeds would support him.
The successful evening, which was compered by Dave Edwards, also featured an auction, raffle and meal.
Furthermore, a GoFundMe online fundraising page was set up which also raised thousands of pounds to assist Adam with his recovery.
