MORAY Chamber of Commerce has been awarded gold status in the Employer Recognition Awards – which recognise employers that support the armed forces community.

The Chamber, which has signed the armed forces covenant, was originally awarded silver status in 2016, and received a reconfirmation silver accolade earlier this year.

To receive the gold award, Moray Chamber of Commerce had to ensure that their workforce was aware of their positive policies towards defence personnel issues.

It also had to demonstrate that service personnel and members of the armed forces community are not being unfairly disadvantaged as part of their recruiting and selection processes.

A total of 156 organisations have been recognised this year, with nine of these being awarded gold. The award will be presented to Moray Chamber at a ceremony at Stirling Castle in September.

Sarah Medcraf, chief executive officer of Moray Chamber, said: “We are thrilled to be awarded the Gold Award.

"The military is engrained in the Moray community through veterans, reservists and personnel, as well as spouses, and we want equity across the region for them.

“We are proud of our achievement and would encourage any business thinking of pledging their support to do so."

Moray Chamber has been involved with the military community for years – including joining the campaign to save RAF Lossiemouth in 2011.

The Employer Recognition Scheme is run by the Ministry of Defence to recognise employers who pledge their commitment to the armed forces community and align their values to the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.
