KEY reopening dates out of lockdown have been announced by the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

The Stay at Home order will be lifted on APRIL 2, although people will have to remain within their local authority area.

Monday, APRIL 5 will see homeware stores, car showrooms and garden centres allowed to reopen. Click and collect services can also resume.

Hairdressers and barbers shops can also reopen to customers from that date.

Contact sports for 12-17-year-olds can also resume on April 5.

From APRIL 12, all children will return to school full-time.

Travel restrictions within mainland Scotland will be lifted from Monday APRIL 26.

All other non-essential retail will be able to reopen on that day, as well as tourist accommodation, libraries, museums and galleries.

The hospitality sector will be allowed to serve people outdoors in groups of six from up to three households up to 10pm, with alcohol permitted without the requirement for food to be served.

Limited indoor opening will be allowed, with four people from two households up to 8pm and no alcohol indoors.

It is hoped to allow travel to other parts of the UK from that date, however, that will be reviewed during April.

From MAY 17, all areas in Scotland will move to level 3 under the tiered system that was in place prior to the lockdown coming in on Boxing Day.

Outdoor adult contact sports can resume, cinemas, amusement arcades and bingo halls can reopen.

Outdoor and indoor events can resume on a small scale, with the crowd levels still to be determined.

Up to four people, from just two households will be allowed to meet up indoors from this date.

May 17 is the earliest that international travel will be considered.

The First Minister added that she expects the whole of Scotland to move to level 1 at the beginning of JUNE and level zero by the end of that month.

However, she warned that all these dates are dependent on the downward supression of the virus, so she urged people to stick to the current rules to stay at home unless for essential purposes.

She said the virus remained dangerous and infectious.

However, she added that the success of the vaccine rollout has been key in allowing restrictions to be lifted quicker than previously thought.

The number of people in Scotland receiving the first dose of a vaccine is now 1,943,507, which is more than 40 per cent of the adult population.

By the middle of April all nine priority groups should have been offered the vaccine.

Ms Sturgeon said she hoped that these dates provided hope that "brighter days are ahead".
