A MONUMENT marking two decades of the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival has been handed over to the Craigellachie community.

A toposcope, consisting of a brass plaque mounted on a stone cairn, was constructed at the Telford Bridge in autumn 2019 in collaboration with the people of Craigellachie.

It celebrates the role played by Speyside communities in the festival's long-running success.

However, plans for an official handover before the 2020 festival could not take place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A handover was finally held last week with representatives from Craigellachie's community during the latest Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Limited Edition, which ran between November 3-8.

The toposcope shows the location of the festival's 42 Speyside distilleries within 20 kilometres from the popular beauty spot at the heart of whisky country, showing graphically how vitally important the area is to Scotch whisky production.
