Buckie Harbour navigation light to be replaced - with the help of a helicopter!
Moray Council are set replace the existing structure on The Mucks rocks outside Buckie Harbour, the light having reached the end of its working life after decades of service.
The existing equipment, which has been in service since the 1970s, will be replaced with a state-of-the-art new light.
Due to the rocky location of The Mucks, a helicopter will be needed to airlift it into place.
Councillor Marc Macrae, chairman of Moray Council’s economic development and infrastructure committee, said: “This replacement is vital to ensuring the safety of vessels navigating our coastline.
“The previous light has served the maritime community for a considerable period of time and we’re pleased to invest in this modern, durable upgrade at a time when we’re looking at the potential for growth in and around Buckie Harbour.”
The replacement light, which has an estimated lifespan of 50 years, has been designed by engineering firm Wallace Stone LLP and marine specialists Aberdeen Marine Ltd.
Weather permitting, the work will take place on Thursday, July 19.
