The South Street office has been home to The Northern Scot for more than a decade.

Parent company Scottish Provincial Press Limited has been acquired out of administration by Highland News and Media Limited.

The move immediately secures 135 jobs in the north of Scotland as well as ensuring the long-term survival of 18 local newspapers and nine growing news websites.

Highland News and Media Limited is a recently established joint venture between Peter Fowler, SPP’s former majority shareholder and Edward Iliffe of Iliffe Media Group.

Commenting on the acquisition, Peter Fowler said: “I am pleased that we have secured the future for the staff and the newspapers.

“With an impressive portfolio of iconic and much-loved newspapers, numerous special publications and rapidly growing digital activities, Highland News and Media is in a very strong position to deliver modern news and advertising solutions across the north of Scotland for many years to come.

Following the acquisition, the business will trade as Highland News and Media Limited, but there will be no changes to the portfolio of newspapers, special publications and websites built up by Scottish Provincial Press.
