Ross praises ‘incredibly important’ Armed Forces veterans as Remembrance Sunday draws near
A Highlands and Islands MSP has stressed the importance of looking after military veterans as Remembrance Sunday approaches.
Douglas Ross MSP has said it was “fantastic” to support Poppy Scotland’s annual event in Holyrood recently.
He went on to state the event provided a “great opportunity” to speak with both Chloe McIntosh and her heroic former Army officer dad Andy about how more can be done to support veterans and their families.
The event also highlighted that the Moray Council area is home to the highest percentage of veterans, out of the total of 176,000 in Scotland, with almost one in 10 living in Moray.
Mr Ross described veterans as being “incredibly important” to the communities he represents, with many having been based at the bases in Lossiemouth and Kinloss and then continue to stay in the area.
He continued: “It was fantastic to have the opportunity to support Poppy Scotland’s event as we approach the Remembrance period.
“It was a great opportunity to speak with veterans and their families about what we can do to support them both in our local communities and across the whole country.
“With Moray being home to the largest proportion of Scotland’s veterans, I will always stand up for them. They are incredibly important to our area and across the communities I represent.
“I always look forward to attending Poppy Scotland’s events and thank the charity for another chance to learn about their work and support this year’s poppy appeal.”
