A BUCKIE man who endangered his partner's life by repeatedly hitting her over the head with a vodka bottle has been jailed for two years.
Ex-military man Steven Manson (63), of Wallace Avenue, had previously admitted assaulting the woman – causing her severe injury and endangering her life – in her home on August 20 last year.
Sentencing was deferred for a background report.
Inverness Sheriff Court was told that Manson and the woman had "problems with alcohol" and that Manson had been diagnosed with post traumatic stress following a spell in the army.
Mr Carty told Sheriff Margaret Neilson: "There is a significant history between him and the woman and both have significant difficulties with alcohol.
"When they don't drink, they are never a problem. He cannot recall what happened. I accept this cannot be dealt with other than by a custodial sentence."
The court heard the woman suffered five separate head injuries causing bruising to the brain and requiring 30 staples.
