A KEITH-BASED care service has clinched a national award for its "personal touch".

Caledonia Homecare, which has an office on Westerton Road industrial estate, has won the Best Home Healthcare Provider in Scotland in the Scotland Prestige awards.

The business now employs more than 40 people, having only set up in Keith last November.

Its carers predominantly assist the elderly in their own homes but also provide support and respite care for any particular requirements that families may have.

The judges were impressed with the team’s personal touch, community feel and passion. The judges added: "It’s extra special to know you are making a positive difference and I hope this achievement brings more success in 2021."

Alasdair Imrie, Caledonia Homecare director, said: "It's nice to see that we got this award over the whole of Scotland.

"It's great to have that recognition for the work we've been doing because obviously it's been a very challenging time.

"The work is pretty intense. The staff have been brilliant, still carrying out caring duties with Covid around and dealing with all the rules around that.

"We have a high level of visits now in the area.

"We're employing a lot of people and will continue to do so. We pay well, train our staff well and it's rewarding. All our staff are training towards SVQs in health and social care, so we are maintaining standards."

Some of the staff will go to collect their award at The Norton House Hotel & Spa, in Edinburgh, in September.

Mr Imrie added: "We are purely a local provider for local people.

"We care for people 18 years old and over with all sorts of needs and requirements, medication, manual handling.

"Covid being the way it was we were up against it with all the challenges, but we managed to provide a solution for Moray Council, who had real issues with the Buckie area, getting the staff and getting the care fixed up.

"We're now a key employer and we're not taking people out of existing care services – we're taking people out of unemployment."

Caledonia Homecare operated primarily in Aberdeen before setting up in Keith at the height of the pandemic.

The business has recently taken on two apprentices.

Manager Vicky Ainsworth said: "It's unbelievable to have won really.

"We only set up in Moray at the end of last year so our hard work has really paid off."
