Keith Covid volunteer group bring Christmas cheer and step up efforts in New Year

THE Keith Covid Volunteer group delivered 41 lunches to residents on Christmas Day.
And efforts to help provide essential food items to individuals and families struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic will continue in the new year.
Ten volunteers delivered meals to residents in Keith, Rothiemay and the surrounding area who were alone on Christmas day or were unable to spend it with their family.
The Christmas day lunch consisted of a tin of Baxters scotch broth soup, turkey with all the trimmings, Christmas pudding, mince pie, cheese and biscuits, shortbread and a sock filled with fruit and sweets and the traditional Christmas cracker.
The lunches along with the cracker, the sock filled with fruit and sweets were funded by the volunteer group but cooked by the Ugie House Hotel, which donated the mince pie,cheese and biscuits. Other donations were received from the Keith Premier Store, Reidhaven Square, Tesco Keith, Deans of Huntly, Doug & Ann McGregor and Unite Union Moray branch.
Theresa Coull organiser of the group who is also the local councillor said: "The group is really grateful to everyone for the donations which made a huge difference to have these extras included with the lunches.
"We just thought it was the right thing to do in the circumstances with so many not being able to see their families this year and not being able to spend Christmas day with them.
"We thought it would be fun to dress up for the deliveries and all those who received a lunch were just delighted and so appreciative, it was also good to have a wee natter."
The group is now sending out flyers offering help again with shopping and advice on services available due to Moray and the rest of the country being in Level 4 lockdown.
The Keith Community Larder, managed by Esther Green and Karen Pryce Idon, along with volunteers, is open again from January 6 with an extra opening day Monday 2pm –2.20pm as well as the usual Wednesday 1-2pm at the Longmore Community Hall for anyone who is in need.
"This is a much needed resource in the town and we would like to encourage people to use it," added Mrs Coull.
The group is also offering a shopping service to those unable to get out of their home.
