THE second day of Keith Show has been cancelled, as heavy rain continued to fall in Moray.

A deluge overnight forced organisers to pull the plug this morning (Monday), with yesterday’s first-day programme having already been severely cut back due to the weather.

Today’s schedule had been expected to include the cattle, sheep and judging competitions, a livestock parade and pipe band display.

It is the second time in five years that bad weather has forced the cancellation of the second day of the show.

Show secretary Alison Ironside decided on the cancellation "due to adverse weather conditions".

Mrs Ironside said she was "desperately disappointed", having put in so much organisational work with a dedicated team of volunteers over the past year.

Roads to and from the show were flooded over the weekend, as torrential rain on Saturday and Sunday caused widespread disruption in Moray.

As of this morning, the A96 at Fochabers was only passable with care.

Train services were also badly affected due to flooding between Keith and Elgin, and between Keith and Huntly, which resulted in the line having to close this morning between Huntly and Elgin.

Services from Inverness to Aberdeen were forced to terminate at Elgin, and then restart from Huntly. The same situation applied in the opposite direction, with buses operating to help stranded passengers.

"At present it is not known how long this disruption will continue," a ScotRail spokesperson said this morning.
