The impacted area was immediately next to the Union Bridge in Keith, near Lotus Petal Flowers.

In the wake of the incident, described as an “embankment failure”, roads operator Amey installed temporary traffic lights on the road and shut the footpath over the River Isla.

The traffic lights and footpath closure remain in place.

It is understood that investigations into the landslide, and the potential impact on the A96, are set to begin today.

In a social media post, a spokesperson for Amey said: “Traffic lights remain in place following earlier embankment failure and footpath remains closed.”
