THE presidential chain has changed hands within the Inner Wheel Club of Elgin.
During a socially distanced handover on June 16, immediate past president Marjorie Duthie passed the reins to Edna Ross, from Elgin, who has served as president previously during her 16-year membership.
Some of the 41 members have been able to meet virtually on occasion throughout the pandemic and have been holding inner club raffles to keep up their charity fundraising to some degree – but Edna said it was a strange time to take the lead.
Edna said: "We've been at a bit of a standstill. We had just moved our meetings from the Eight Acres to the golf club as it underwent refurbishment, then we managed one meeting back at the Eight Acres before lockdown.
"We've been keeping busy with craft activities and inner raffles, and we are all organised with speakers lined up for when we can restart properly.
"A lot of the fundraising we do is for causes that don't have a high public profile, such as Darby and Joan clubs or for refugees. As we emerge from the pandemic lots of these Moray groups will be struggling.
"We hope to be holding our regular meetings by Christmas and in the new year back on track with our bring and buy sales and coffee mornings."
Elgin's Inner Wheel members are dedicated to raising money for local charities.
