A CHARITY which supports disabled people across Moray is seeking urgent support to continue its work.

Lead Scotland helps people with disabilities and carers to access inclusive learning – from developing literacy, numeracy and digital skills to gaining new qualifications.

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a serious impact on fundraising, placing the charity's ability to serve the community in jeopardy.

So they are trying to boost funds for their work in Moray through a crowdfunding initiative run with the Aviva Community Fund and have called for local support.

CEO Emma Whitelock said: "Disabled people and carers in Moray want to move confidently forward with the right support, not shrink backwards into social isolation.

"Together we can make Moray a fairer place to live and learn."

As well as offering access to learning through personalised learning plans, the charity lends tablets to those who don’t have access to a digital device or internet access and also helps to find volunteering placements.

While its work is unusually one-to-one, the pandemic saw volunteers using the phone, email and video conferencing to support learners.

Many of those who access the service reported feeling lonelier during lockdown, so the team increased contact to offer greater help and reassurance.

The charity's vision is of a fair society where disabled people and carers have an equal opportunity to learn, participate and achieve their potential.

They hope the crowdfunder – www.avivacommunityfund.co.uk/moray-adult-learning-project-for-disabled-people – will enable them to continue their work.
