Is there anyone out there who hasn’t felt fed up, disheartened or trapped or felt that there is no end in sight this year?
I certainly have. I’ve also been in touch with friends, colleagues and patients who have felt the same and these feelings can be wide ranging in terms of severity.
This year there has been a huge surge of mental health difficulties.
This impacts on the individual and their ability to function with day to day events. The negative consequences also affects those around them.
A tried and tested way to maintain control of our mental health is exercise. No only does it help
your heart, joints and mobility but it has a huge impact on our wellbeing. It makes us feel good, we are more able to cope with challenges, it gives us a sense of purpose and increases our
connection with our community and surroundings .
I have never come back from a form of physical activity and regretted it. I always found it a
positive experience.
Research proves that those who are more active feel increased contentment, alert and calmer compared with those that are inactive.
Exercise does not have to be challenging. Walking for 15 minutes outside every day is hugely
beneficial and is achievable to the majority. Take the kids, walk with friends , breath in some fresh air and set yourself a daily target in order to benefit from these positive effects. Push away those excuses and engage that CAN DO attitude. I guarantee you will not regret it.
Start slowly, make it right for you, make it part of your daily life and get others on board with you.
We are so lucky in Moray to have amazing places to explore either through walking, running or
cycling . We are blessed with great sport facilities where you do not need to be a gym diva . Folk of all shapes and sizes engage in the wide range of exercise classes and this support further keeps our leisure centres open.
Lets keep moving Moray.
