Moray Leisure Centre employee scoops DYW Moray award
A woman who has helped prepare thousands for the world of work has received an award.
Hazel Geddes, who works in human resources at Moray Leisure Centre, has been named DYW Moray’s Employer of the Month.
Since getting involved with DYW Moray activities in late 2022, Hazel has led efforts within her organisation, helping to better prepare more than 3000 young people in Moray for the world of work.
She has made a significant impact, inspiring pupils and helping them shape their futures.
In 2024 alone, Moray Leisure Centre hosted nine DYW activities and also hosted an impressive six in 2023.
Additionally, Hazel and her team are looking at introducing apprenticeship opportunities and are continuing to recruit young talent.
Hazel Geddes said: “I am totally overwhelmed.
“I find attending all DYW events as my way of engaging with the future workforce of Moray.
“I like to show them what is here on their doorsteps and give them advice on what they can achieve while attending school.
“My advice to all young adults is that even having a small part-time job while at school is a great way of earning but also learning.
“Working with all age ranges at Moray Leisure Centre is a fantastic way for them to gain skills and confidence on what might lead to the career path that they chose for their future.
“Even if they do decide to go on to college or university, they can use a qualification such as the NPLQ to work in other pools while gaining the qualification they are studying for.
“There really is something out there for everyone, they just need to try and give things a chance and if it is not what they want to do then try something else and never give up.
“I would like to thank all the DYW team for their endless efforts for the Moray community, and I look forward to continuing working together in the future.”
Aimee Stephen, Business Liaison at DYW Moray, added: “I am delighted to present this award to Hazel.
“It’s a pleasure to work with her; she is always so supportive and helpful. Her dedication to supporting young people in Moray is truly inspiring.”
