DUFFTOWN Indoor Bowling team are celebrating a brilliant season after coming close to making a clean sweep.

The club has triumphed in the Banffshire Indoor Bowling Association.

What's more, members won both the Dewars Cup and the Macallan Shield at Craigellachie, the Hopeman Triples, the Hopeman Pairs, the Fochabers Triples and were runners up in the Keith Pairs.

Club vice-chairman Steven Dalgarno said: "It is a common misconception that bowls is an old person's game, but you just need to look at our club members to see there are quite a few younger players.

"The youngsters have played a vital role in helping the club secure these titles. That said, experience plays a huge part. The game of bowls is easy to play but is difficult to master."

Steven is the father of Adam and Ryan who both play for the club.

He added: "I was asked recently if I let my boys win. I replied it's them that need to let me win.”

Mortlach Primary School pupil Ashley McDonald is the club's youngest member.

Nevertheless, she came runner-up in the Ladies Singles.
