HOPEMAN was bustling with activity for the community’s annual gala.

The town's community association gala team ensured there was something for everyone in its packed programme running from August 13-20, from comedy, music, fitness, food, arts and crafts to fancy dress, children’s fun and educational activities and, of course, the sandcastle competition.

A marquee tent at the beach park was the hub for the week’s events, many of which sold out in advance.

Some 220 people kicked off proceedings in a burst of movement and colour in the Hopeman Gala Colour Run. Euan McPherson took first place, Rachel Scott second, and Iona Scott and Henry McAlister took joint third place.

RAF-supported Nerf Wars and assault course sessions proved a hit with youngsters, as did a Harry Potter event for wizards in training, and a Gruffalo story trail and picnic. People lined Harbour Street to see some imaginative creations in the fancy dress parade and enjoyed a night of music and food as the sun set on Harbour Night. Some 68 teams got creative in the sandcastle contest.

Gala convener Lindsay Nelson said: "We would like to thank all the community that contributed through baking, cooking, helping build and dismantle the gala and staff our events.

"We were busier than ever with a number of sold-out events which were kindly supported by our sponsors.

"The gala team is a small one that will now go through significant change. As the outgoing gala convener, I thank all for the support I have received over the last few years and wish the new team lots of luck."
