Buckie RNLI crew to be hailed at Holyrood for decades of commitment to saving lives at sea.
The long-term dedication and commitment of a group of volunteer lifesavers is to be commended by the Scottish Parliament.
Five members of the Buckie RNLI lifeboat crew were recently presented with King’s Medals by Area Operations Manager Carlos Hamlet in recognition of their years of selfless dedication to saving lives at sea.
Lifeboat coxswain Davie Grant was honoured for his three decades of service, while Mike Rennie (22), Graeme Gault (12), Gavin Hyne (18) and Stuart Mack (10) joined him in receiving medals.
Their achievements are set to be further honoured thanks to a motion to be presented to the Scottish parliament by local MSP Karen Adam.
Recently, Ms Adam took the opportunity to visit the lifeboat station and learn more about the lifesaving work done by the volunteers.
She said: “Their bravery, skill and unwavering commitment to keeping our coastal communities safe is truly inspiring.
“The RNLI relies on volunteers. People who drop everything at a moment’s notice to respond to emergencies.
“It was humbling to hear more about the work they do and to thank them in person.
To mark their efforts and recognise outstanding service within the team, I submitted a motion to the Scottish Parliament.
“Thank you to everyone at Buckie RNLI, your community is proud of you!”
Speaking after the presentation of the medals, Buckie RNLI lifeboat station’s Lifeboat Operations Manager, Anne Scott, hailed the commitment of the crew.
She commented: “I’m delighted to see these crewmembers rewarded for their long and dedicated service.
“Without the unswerving and selfless commitment of our volunteers the RNLI would be unable to perform our mission of saving lives at sea.”
Ms Adam’s motion reads: “That the Parliament commends the Buckie RNLI lifeboat coxswain, Davie Grant, and his fellow crew members, Mike Rennie, Graeme Gault, Gavin Hyne and Stuart Mack, on being awarded The King’s Medal in recognition of their decades of dedicated and selfless service to saving lives at sea; acknowledges Davie’s remarkable 30 years with the RNLI and his leadership as coxswain since 2021, including his swift response to a Mayday call just 72 hours after assuming the role; welcomes new crew member, Bruce Scott, as he embarks on his lifesaving journey, having already responded to his first call-out within days of joining; recognises the invaluable contribution of RNLI volunteers, without whom vital life-saving operations would not be possible, and expresses gratitude to all at Buckie RNLI for their unwavering commitment to maritime safety.”
