Moray Lib Dem leader announced as candidate for Elgin South by-election
Moray Liberal Democrat leader Neil Alexander has been announced as the party’s candidate for the Elgin South by-election later this year.
In July, Neil stood as the candidate for Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey in the General Election and had the best Lib Dem result for the area in over 10 years.
Recently he has been campaigning for the council to reverse the funding cuts towards Additional Support Needs support for children in Moray schools.
Neil said: “I’m fed up of Moray Council making the news headlines for all the wrong reasons. Whether it's cut after cut, or unfair tax and charge increases, it's time this council were finally held to account for the human cost of their decisions. I am proud to be standing as a candidate in the town I live and work."
Alex Cole-Hamilton, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, said: “He has my full support, and he has hit the ground running, picking up key local issues.
“I’m very proud of Neil’s candidacy and I’m very proud to help him launch his campaign, and I can’t wait to get out on the doors with him.”
The local party leader has campaigned for a number of causes, such as new housing for domestic abuse survivors, a ban on illegal pavement parking and council houses being inspected for dangerous concrete.
The Elgin South by-election is to take place on Thursday, November 7.
