AN ELGIN man has smashed his target to run seven marathons in seven days to boost local charity Logan's Fund.

The starting gun for John Anderson's challenge was the 42km Full Dram race at Speyside's Dramathon on Saturday, October 16. The Moray Road Runners member kept up the pace for the next six consecutive days.

Hot on the heels of completing the Moray Way 100-mile Ultra race just two weeks previously, John (41) covered nearly 300km over the week.

He has raised around £1500 and counting for the Lossiemouth-based children's cancer charity.

On day six John ran the entire day's marathon up and down Brumley Brae, on Elgin's outskirts.

John, who runs the Staging Post Bar in Bucksburn, said: "Brumley Brae is one of the training runs we use for the Road Runners. A few of the members threw in a £20 after I did that because they all know how hard it is. The total elevation gained in the end for that run was 300m above the height of Ben Nevis. It was a tough one."

John was joined by friends and fellow Road Runners for his final marathon at Elgin's Cooper Park on Friday, October 22, which he completed by running 1km loops.

He added: "Quite a few people came out for the final run, which was completed entirely at Cooper Park, mostly members of the Road Runners. Plenty of folk along the way gave us a clap."

John was one of five people signed up to run for Logan's Fund at this year's Dramathon. The other runners were Gary Ewen, from Garmouth, Ryan Anderson, from Elgin, Matthew Berry, from Cawdor, and Neil Crookston, from Craigellachie.

Cameron Mackintosh, Logan's Fund chairman, said: "It was an incredible effort by John over the seven days, although from what I witnessed myself, it seemed to be effortless for him.

"From the array of comments I've seen from his peers at Moray Road Runners and the wider running community, he seems to have once again left people with a mix of awe and inspiration.

"All five runners representing Logan's Fund in the Dramathon did brilliantly and we would like to thank them and all who sponsored and supported them in their achievements.

"Our involvement in the Dramathon to date has raised around £4250 with more to follow in additional Gift Aid. One of our runners' employers match-funds his fundraising so we should smash the £5000 mark once all is finalised.

"The total includes the generous donation made to the raffle of a limited-edition bottle of Glenfiddich from Whisky Auctioneer based in Perth."

John is now limbering up for the Dava Way 50k in a fortnight.

He also has plans simmering for next summer. He said: "I've got an idea in the back of my mind to run the North Coast 500 route. The current record is six days. I'd really love to have a bash at that."
