WORKS on the new Lossie Bridge are set to begin in November, Moray Council has said.
The detailed design for the replacement East Beach Bridge is almost complete, with works on site to begin at the start of next month.
Initial work will see a site compound and path works associated with the new bridge set up. The structural work on the abutments and piles will begin December or January.
Some areas of the East Beach car park and esplanade will no longer be accessible to members of the public due to the works.
The footbridge – which is anticipated to be set for use next summer – will be about 200ft in length and about 10ft wide.
Moray's SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said the update is "good news" for locals.
He added: "The closure of the bridge has had a big impact on the community and I know that for many, the completion of the new bridge can’t come fast enough.
"Things are moving in the right direction and again I’m so grateful to Scottish Government colleagues for securing the funds to deliver this vital project."
The East Beach Bridge was closed in the summer of 2019 after being deemed unsafe by structural engineers.
The Scottish Government agreed to fund the replacement bridge shortly after, with planning permission granted in August of this year.
